Narrabri Bowling Club will enjoy one of its biggest days of the season this Saturday when the John McNamara Owen Campey Synthetic Green hosts the finals of four competitions.

The men’s Major and Minor Singles and Club Fours deciders will all be played, as will the ladies’ Club Pairs final.

The finalists of Narrabri Women’s Bowling Club’s Pairs competition are yet to be decided after the semi-finals were rescheduled for today at 10am after both were initially meant to be played last week.

Those games see Lisa Pillar and Eva Sadler take on Glennis Godden and Di Chessells in one elimination match and Sue Solomon and Cindy Neil go head-to-head with Marie Redman and Rhonda Welchman in the other.

The men’s finalists are all locked in ahead of the three deciders.

In the Club Fours final at 9.30am on Saturday, the team of David Slack-Smith, Scott Dewar, Graham Rose and Trinity Kelly will challenge Terry Wilson, Ian Macmillan, Larry Scott and Kevin Baguley.

The two singles finals will then be contested from 1pm. Terry Wilson will meet David Field in the Minor Singles decider with Laurie Gilbert to mark, and Norm Walford will take on Kevin Baguley in the Major Singles final with Dave Dewar to mark.

Walford has the chance to go back-to-back following his Club Singles championship victory at the Narrabri Bowling Club in July last year when he defeated the 2020 champion Trinity Kelly 31-30.

This year’s final will be Baguley’s second in three years after he lost the 2020 decider 33-29 against Kelly.

There were several games played last Thursday and Saturday.

The Narrabri Women’s Bowling Club hosted a trophy day on Thursday.

Winners were Rhonda Fitzgerald who played swinging lead and with Carol Demamiel and Berice Eather defeated Glennis Godden and Cecile 28-7.

Second place went to Dawn Armstrong, Ronnie Dewar and Eva Sadler who downed Carolynne Tomlinson, Janice Foxe and Lyn Tuckey 24-12.

The other game saw Janet Coleman, Marie Redman and Cindy Neil beat Gloria Campey, Yvonne Hardman and Di Chessells 22-10.

Ladies’ social bowls will be played again this Thursday, July 14.

On Saturday, the Narrabri Bowling Club’s two men’s Major Singles semi-finals were contested as Walford beat Tony Redman 32-18 and Baguley downed David Dewar 31-27.

Walford and Redman claimed four ends each across the first eight as the defending champion established a six shots to four lead.

He then stormed to a commanding lead as he earned eight of the next 10 ends to go ahead 21-7.

Redman then won six of the next seven ends to reduce his deficit to six as the score became 23-17. However, Walford got back on top and claimed four of the next five ends to win the game 32-18 after 30 ends.

The other semi-final saw Baguley and Dewar also both win four of the first eight ends each, which saw the score become locked at eight shots apiece.

Dewar then led 12-8 after 10 ends of play before Baguley went on a run that saw him claim seven of eight ends to lead 19-13 at the completion of the 18th.

Baguley and Dewar scored four shots each across the next six ends before Dewar reduced his deficit to four by the end of the 26th.

However, Baguley then established an eight-shot lead when he scored a four on the 27th to go ahead 27-19.

Dewar set up a thrilling finish when he claimed the next three ends while piling on seven points as Baguley’s lead was cut to one at 27-26. But that became four shots when Baguley scored a three on the 31st end to go ahead 30-26.

Dewar scored one shot on the 32nd end before Baguley put the game to bed on the 33rd to make the final score 31-27.

After Baguley and Redman had both contested their Major Singles semi-finals on Saturday, they then met one another in a semi-final of the Veteran Singles competition that afternoon.

Baguley prevailed 31-29 after 37 ends of play in that match.

The score was 5-all after six ends, 9-all after 11 ends, and 15-all after 18 ends.

Redman then went on a dominant run, during which he won six straight ends to take a 22-15 lead after 24 ends of play.

The two bowlers both scored four shots each across the next four ends as Redman’s lead became 26-19, but Baguley cut that back to 26-24 at the completion of the 31st end.

Redman claimed three of the next four ends to lead 29-26 after 35 ends, but Baguley scored a two on the 36th end and a three on the 37th to win the match and advance to the final.
