Narrabri Clay Target Club is gearing up for its biggest event of the year this weekend as the King of Kaputar two-day shoot makes a highly-anticipated return.
The Western Zone carnival will see shooters compete to gain selection onto the zone team, while among the seven events at the shoot will be a NSW state title – the Single Barrel Continental Championship.
The Narrabri Clay Target Club’s committee, led by president Mark Barden, life member Graham Baylis and vice-president Andrew Martin, have been working extremely hard to ensure the club grounds are at their brilliant best come Saturday, and they are excited to host the first two-day King of Kaputar event since the 2019 season following COVID-19-affected years in 2020 and 2021.
“We’re all really looking forward to it,” Baylis said.
“We’ve been working hard getting ready for it,” Barden added.
“It’ll be a really good, competitive weekend.”
This weekend’s shoot is expected to attract more than 100 competitors, and the club could welcome as many as 120, officials predicted.
Shooters will travel from Brewarrina, Cobar, Coonamble, Goolma, Lightning Ridge, Mendooran, Narromine, Moree, Tottenham and Warren to join local Narrabri shooters in attempting to gain selection for the Western Zone team, while shooters from Guyra, Tamworth, Sydney, Cessnock, Griffith, Goondiwindi, Texas, Gold Coast and Brisbane are also expected to attend.
