There was great excitement on Monday when the Narrabri Health Service kiosk was reopened after COVID measures forced its closure for more than two years.
“It was just fabulous,” said Narrabri Hospital Auxiliary president Tricia Hadley.
“I think the medical staff have been really hanging out for it to open too. They’ve been saying they can’t wait to have the salad sandwiches again.”
The kiosk serves as the auxiliary’s primary fundraiser, with the dedicated community group contributing profits to the funding of vital hospital equipment and projects.
It’s popular with patients, staff, and visitors as the kiosk space provides people visiting the hospital with a comfortable and friendly spot to sit and enjoy a cold or hot drink, snacks, and lunches, as well as essential items like newspapers and magazines.
A new addition to the kiosk is a beautiful painting (featured with this article) that will hang on the wall in memory of the late Sally Alexander and Beryl Health to honour and recognise their service to the Narrabri community and the United Hospital Auxiliaries.
Boyce Alexander was a special guest at the reopening and when he cut the cake, commented that his late wife “Sally would be proud”.
The kiosk was looking magnificent, and hard at work in the sparkling clean kitchen were the hospital auxiliary’s committed army of volunteers, brewing coffee and ready to serve up scrumptious iced cakes and healthy treats to hungry customers.
The atmosphere in the kiosk was buzzing with renewed positivity, which is captured in a poem written by Max Pringle.
“It’s wonderful to be part of it and to be open again. The community really needs it,” added Narrabri Hospital Auxiliary president Tricia Hadley who also encouraged community members to volunteer their time and join the group.
