Final placings in The Courier’s 2022 NRL preliminary tipster competition came down to the wire in the last round of the regular season.

Narrabri Pharmacy emerged as the winner of the 2022 Business House Challenge following a tight final round which could have gone either way for the top competition businesses.

The pharmacy jumped to top spot in front of Logan & Co, which had led the competition for the majority of rounds, ahead of the final weekend.

Richards Metaland landed in second place just two points behind Narrabri Pharmacy. CGS is third.

Justin Carter, who has been responsible for the tipping, and his father David Carter will be representing Narrabri Pharmacy at the grand final.

It marks the third time the Maitland Street pharmacy has claimed the top prize in the newspaper’s business house challenge, having won previously in 2011 and 2013.

The winner of the NRL Readers’ Competition, Dean Robinson, is no stranger to claiming the spot as the top tipster after taking out first prize in 2012.

Dean has fond memories of attending that year’s grand final between Bulldogs and Storm.

This year, the die-hard Sharks fan is hoping to see his beloved team in the NRL grand final so he and his son Corey, also a Sharks supporter, can cheer them on in the final dance.

“I’m hoping the Sharks do get in, just not against Penrith,” Dean said.

Dean likes to study form for the competition and usually tips the Sharks most weeks, depending on the opposing team.

“When in doubt, back the home side,” he said.footy

“There is a lot of luck involved.”

There will be quite a contingent from The Courier and the Gunnedah Times at the grand final.

The winners from the COVID-affected 2020 and 2021 competitions take up their prizes, making 20 attendees in all.

The Courier has purchased the prizes of 20 airfares and 20 grand final tickets.

Sponsor Radisson Blu has provided the accommodation at its five-star luxury Sydney Plaza hotel in the city’s centre.
