With predictions of rainfall of anywhere between 20mm to 40mm, with isolated falls of up to 100mm, the NSW SES is again preparing for flooding in the North West over the coming days.
Based on the predicted rainfall, the saturated catchments and the fact many rivers are currently still in flood – the SES said in a statement it is preparing for flooding similar to last week’s river heights across the region.
This includes, but is not limited to, the Peel, Namoi, Gwydir and Severn Rivers.
“Flooding is already at the major height in Wee Waa and we can expect that to remain following this prediction,” the statement said.
“Gunnedah exceeded the major flood level and reached 8.16m, we are planning for this height to potentially be reached, or even exceeded once this rain begins to fall over night today (Tuesday) and into tomorrow (Wednesday).
Minor flooding has been predicted for Moree, Boggabri and Narrabri by the Bureau of Meteorlogy.
“Please be safe over the coming days. We have undertaken more than 30 flood rescues where people are willingly driving around road closed signs and try to cross floodwater,” the SES statement read.
“This is never a good decision and could cost your life. Turn around – don’t drown.
“If you need the assistance of the NSW SES to help prepare for the oncoming flooding with sandbags and welfare checks, or require assistance once the flooding commences, please call us on 132 500 and log a Request for Assistance.
“We are here to help, we are locals too and your welfare is our primary concern.
