A mammoth weekend of celebrations was held for former students and teachers who travelled from Queensland and throughout NSW to a reunion to celebrate their history and connections with Narrabri West Public School.
The school was established in 1884.
Seventy-five attendees joined in the weekend’s celebrations on Saturday and Sunday, October 1 and 2.
The locals and visitors met on Saturday evening for a reunion dinner with morning tea, lunch and dinner events on Sunday.
The last school reunion was held in 2014 and was restricted to past students from 1956 to 1962.
After the success of this event, former student Keith Miller decided to set up a Facebook page called ‘Narrabri West School Friends’.
The page has gathered quite a following, starting off with 30 and currently sitting at nearly 400 past ‘Westies’, and Mr Miller had an idea – to stage a student reunion with no year restrictions and to include teachers and principals.
An organising committee was formed, and preparations began.
Mr Miller said the weekend was a resounding success.
“We were all extremely pleased with the turnout,” he said.
“I would like to thank all those who travelled from near and far to attend.
“We staged the various catchups over the entire weekend to offer flexibility for travellers to attend whichever days they could.
“We would love to see more students, teachers and principals, and relatives join our Facebook page, Narrabri West School Friends Facebook group and share in the school’s history and camaraderie”.
