Organisers of the Narrabri Show Society and Narrabri Garden Club Spring Flower and Rose Show on Saturday were delighted with the quality and number of entries and number of visitors who went along to the show.

Visitors saw fantastic flowers and innovative arrangements.

Entries were up and the huge variety, quality and standard of blooms was exceptional, organisers said.

“And the new venue, the Narrabri Bowling Club auditorium was just great,” said Narrabri Garden Club vice president Noeline Kiss.

The Show, usually an annual one but suspended during the COVID hiatus, has a rich history dating back to local horticultural expert the late Laird Welchman and his group hosting annual Rose Shows.

“Laird was a passionate advocate of roses and used the show to help introduce roses to a wider group of gardeners,” said.

“In later years the show was expanded to include all groups of flowers and plants and decorative floral art.

“Those early shows are still spoken about when gardeners get together,” Mrs Kiss said.

However, the recent weather, a profound change from the dry drought years, saw gardeners maintain their tradition of fantastic flowers.

Flower Show results and more photos will be in Thursday’s Courier.
