Another anticipated post-COVID return was made late last month when the South Sydney juniors were welcomed back to Narrabri for the first time since 2019 to resume the annual tradition of a match against Narrabri and District Junior Rugby League.

The two sides went head-to-head at Collins Park under lights on Wednesday, September 28, and it was the South Sydney side that won.

The Rabbitohs juniors came out firing, and although Narrabri was much-improved in the second half, the visitors won 20-6.

As usual, the city boys toured Narrabri for two days to see what life in the country is like.

Narrabri and District Junior Rugby League president Ben Manchee told The Courier that it was an enjoyable two days.

“It was great to have the kids back again,” he said.

“It’s a great partnership with Souths that we have, and I think it’s good for the town too.

“There are a few people I really want to thank who helped us out with the trip.

“David and Therese at Civeo, they were unreal. They put the 18 kids and three staff up there and fed them too which was unreal. We were struggling to get billets and they really came to the party.

“We went out to Sydney Uni, the Plant Breeding Institute, and we had Rebecca and Kieran out there help us out massively.

“They showed us all around the place and they showed the boys a bit of what happens in the country.

“Then out at Whitehaven we had Ashlee and Jason, and the boys got to watch a video of a tour of the underground mine.

“We couldn’t actually go underground unfortunately because the boys weren’t old enough, but it was awesome out there.

“I’d also like to thank the referees on the night, so Steve Bartz and Raymond Stanford.

“Lastly I’d like to thank the South Sydney juniors for coming.”
