Two Maitland Street establishments have had requests for suspensions to the alcohol free zone endorsed by Narrabri Shire Council.
In two separate applications, the Namoi Hotel and the Tourist Hotel made applications to council to allow the sale and consumption of alcohol in front of their respective premises.
The Namoi Hotel lodged its application with the view of establishing an alfresco dining area on the footpath surrounding the hotel on Maitland and Bowen Streets.
Council granted the alcohol free zone suspension to the Namoi Hotel for a period of 12 months.
The suspension only applies to a particular area in front of the premises.
The remaining section of Maitland and Bowen Streets outside of the fenced area will remain an alcohol free zone.
As part of the approval, council said it reserves the right to revoke the zone suspension.
The Tourist Hotel sought a suspension to the zone to coincide with the Narrabri Chamber of Commerce Maitland Street Christmas Carnival.
The zone was temporarily suspended in front of the Tourist Hotel on Friday, December 16, from 5pm to 10pm.
