Welcome to The Courier’s 2022/23 Narrabri District Cricket Association Coates Hire Namoi Super Slog T20 competition live blog.
From 4pm this afternoon at the Narrabri RSL Club, the four franchises – J and D Weed Management, Specialised Civil Services, WTC Group and 2020/21 champions Priag Patriots – will draft their teams for the third edition of NDCA’s premier T20 competition.
The captains of the four franchises have been locked in, with the NDCA first grade competition leading wicket-taker Cooper Brayshaw to skipper the defending champions Priag Patriots, the only player to have played in both grand final-winning teams and also the 2021/22 season MA Connolly Cup-winning captain Luke Meppem to lead J and D Weed Management, Western Razorbacks skipper and Central North quick Dylan Smith to captain WTC Group, and NDCA Pink Slugs wicketkeeper Lachlan Woolford to skipper Specialised Civil Services.
Earlier today, NDCA revealed the retained players from each franchise.
These players are automatic selections into their respective squads, with a 20 per cent loading added to their price from the 2020/21 Coates Hire Namoi Super Slog T20 season, which is to come out of the franchise’s $10 million salary cap at today’s auction.
Captains and retained players are:
Priag Patriots – Cooper Brayshaw (c), Clay Hoffman, Josh Trindall, Nathan Trindall and Bernard O’Connor.
Specialised Civil Services – Lachlan Woolford (c), Jay Hall, Jye Manton, Zack Doring and Tim Cameron.
J and D Weed Management – Luke Meppem (c), Sid Harvey, Nick Tomlinson and Josh Rose.
WTC Group – Dylan Smith (c), Jarrett Tough, Cody Kember, Tim Hayne and Matt Conroy.
This afternoon, when a player is called out, each franchise and their captain have 60 seconds to decide what portion of their salary cap they will offer to spend on that player.
The franchise with the highest bid on a player will have that player added to their roster, and their price will be subtracted from that team’s salary cap.
Throughout the afternoon, The Courier, below, will provide an updated list of each player who has been drafted, their draft price and the team they were drafted into.
The first player drawn out was Tourist Hotel’s Joel Hogan, who was taken by Priag Patriots for $250,000.
The first million-dollar player was Tatts skipper Jakeb Nipperess who was taken for $1.2 million by Priag Patriots.
Dylan Segundo, at player number 12, then became the most expensive player when he was taken by J and D Weed Management for $1,505,000, but he was immediately overtaken by Jake Brayshaw, at player number 13, who went for $3,000,050 to Priag Patriots.
Hamish Duncan later became the most expensive player at player number 26 when he was taken by Priag Patriots for $3,105,000. He finished the auction as the most expensive player.
