The Narrabri racecourse was the perfect venue for the Narrabri Local Aboriginal Land Council to hold their annual Family Fun Day on Saturday, January 21.
After a three-year hiatus due to COVID and a postponement from October 2022 due to flooding, the event saw more than 70 children and nearly 150 parents, carers and volunteers attend the festivities.
Originally associated with NAIDOC Week in July, organisers have shifted the family day to a summertime activity with better weather and this year it became an event to look forward to during the school summer holidays.
Previous events held by NLALC have included a disco for the children and a dinner dance evening for adults, with the focus an opportunity for the community to catch up with old and new friends alike.
This year the event included a DJ, jumping castle, facepainting, and gift bags for the children kindly provided by the health care centre at Tamworth Aboriginal Medical Services.
The Narrabri Jockey Club generously offered the grounds and facilities to NLALC to stage the event.
NLALC CEO, Lynn Trindall, was delighted with the turnout and said it was lovely to see so many people get together for the day.
“We are most grateful for the gift of the facilities by the Narrabri Jockey Club.
“We try to repay the club by leaving a few items behind for their own use, such as an urn, a microwave, or a couple of hoses.
“We feel that is the least we can do to show our gratitude to the club.”
