Blue Boars burn Scone at home

The Narrabri Blue Boars defeated the Scone Brumbies 42-15 on Saturday afternoon in round three of the 2019 Central North Rugby Union first grade season with help from a second half onslaught by the home side.

The hosts did not get the start that they wanted as they went behind early on in the match.

Narrabri was down 15-12 at the half but came out of the sheds fired up.

The Boars enjoyed a scoring spree, spreading the ball wide to stretch the Scone defence.

Narrabri kept Scone scoreless in the second half while putting on 30
unanswered points to claim a 42-15 victory.

Luke Tuckey was a standout for the home side, scoring a hat-trick from the left flank, while the team’s forwards carried the ball upfield with intensity.

Narrabri’s other four tries were shared between Jack Maunder, Matt McDonnell, Jydon Hill and Toby Nancarrow.

Hill also chipped in with two conversions and penalty goal off the boot and Jake Packer converted once.

McDonnell was awarded the three zone points and Sam Kahl picked up one.

The match was a special one for the Blue Boars with Pat Brummell reaching a milestone with the club.

Brummell played his 100th game for Narrabri in the side’s win against Scone and almost scored what would have been a wonderful try which was denied for a forward pass earlier in the play.

“When you play your 100th game, it’s a real special moment,” Blue Boars first grade coach Dylan Duncan said.

“He’s been playing some really good footy for the club and he would have loved it especially being at home and getting such a big win.

“Pat is just a fun guy to be around and is mates with a lot of the younger group in the club.

“But on the field he becomes a really aggressive and strong player.”
