Narrabri Rugby Club travelled to Barraba on Saturday with all four teams to compete in round 14 of the Central North Rugby Union season.

The Blue Boars almost pulled off a clean sweep on the day.

The club’s first grade side defeated the Barraba Rams 32-26 in the main game, after the women’s sevens team downed Barraba 27-12 and 22-0 and the under-19s outfit scored a 34-24 victory against Barraba/Gwydir.

Narrabri’s second grade team was the only visiting side which did not prevail on the day as it went down by just a point in a 17-16 defeat.

The Blue Boars’ first grade win was by a tighter margin than expected.

However the victory was a comfortable one, with a converted try late in the game reducing the home side’s deficit from 13 points to six.

That victory saw Narrabri hold on to third place on the CNRU first grade ladder.

It was a crucial win, with fourth-placed Pirates and fifth-placed Gunnedah both scoring big wins in their respective home games.

The Pirates beat Scone 54-18 and Gunnedah downed Quirindi 50-15.

The other round 14 fixture saw Walcha win a top-of-the-table clash against Moree.

Both sides earned a four-try bonus point in that game but it was Walcha which would earn the five points on its home ground with a 38-31 win.

Moree actually earned two points on the day, picking up a second bonus point for losing by seven points or less.

The Blue Boars are now just five points behind second-placed Moree.
