Northwest Speedway Club fans – worry no more.
Recent concerns from within the club that its two race meetings this season would be abandoned and that the club itself could possibly fold were quashed on Sunday after a club meeting saw a strong committee formed.
As reported by The Courier on Thursday, August 1, the Northwest Speedway Club held its annual general meeting at the Namoi Hotel on Sunday, July 14, but just four people attended.
The club had another attempt at an annual general meeting two weeks later which attracted nine people.
The club’s 2018-19 president Gary Rodd successfully nominated to return to the top job for the 2019-20 season, but no other positions were filled.
However all those positions were filled at the club’s most recent meeting at the Namoi Hotel on Sunday.
James Rodd, son of president Gary Rodd, stepped into the secretary’s role for the 2019-20 season.
Richard Morris became assistant secretary and Peter McEvoy filled the vacant treasurer’s position.
Six people came onboard as committee members to complete a 10-person strong committee. Those six were Scott Connole, Coreena Hill, Dion Bennett, Mark Tailby, Trent Keeler and David Patterson.
Northwest Speedway Club president Gary Rodd said that he was relieved after Sunday’s meeting and was confident that this committee would successfully take the club forward in the 2019-20 season.
Rodd told The Courier that the club’s first race meeting had been locked in for Saturday, November 9, and that it had been confirmed that Newcastle Street Stockers would host round two of their championship at that meeting. The club is now actively working to secure support divisions for that event.
