Gillian Hovell, aka the Muddy Archaeologist, enthralled her audience at the last ADFAS event for 2023 held at The Crossing Theatre on Monday, October 16.

A freelance archaeologist, writer and author, international public speaker and broadcaster, Ms Hovell, who resides in Yorkshire, England, has a passion for ancient artefacts.

Specialising in the study of the Greek and Roman eras, she has been following in the footsteps of many who have trodden and dug over archaeological sites throughout Europe and the United Kingdom.

Over the last several hundred years, enthusiasts have begun diligently collecting, documenting, and studying objects made by those who lived thousands of years ago.

And the field of archaeology has unearthed some incredible artefacts.

Ms Hovell conveyed her enthusiasm to the crowd and kept them glued to the screen with her images of the retrieval of these items which help to shed light on our ancestors.

Some of the most impressive ancient artifacts in human history have been unearthed in the Mediterranean.

The Australian Decorative & Fine Arts Society Narrabri (ADFAS Narrabri) will be undergoing an overhaul over the new year with an addition of a new business name, ArtsNational Narrabri.

Still operating under the legal name of ADFAS, the new business name has been suggested by the Association of ADFAS executive rebranding
committee.

It is hoped the new business name will offer a modernisation, an uplift, and a better explanation of what we do.

Bringing cultural events with overseas and Australian arts lecturers to our regional district is the focus of the group, a non-profit organisation run solely by volunteers.

The committee is looking forward to launching an exciting range of topics relating to the arts in 2024, which include sculpture and architecture, the literature of Jane Austen, the paintings of Matisse, design and culture in India, and to add a twist to the season, the history of wine and where it all began.

The first lecture for 2024 is scheduled for March 4, 2024.
