Community members from across the district celebrated the opening of Vicky Phelps’ solo exhibition at the Wee Waa Community Arts and Cultural Centre recently.
Attendees were warmly welcomed through the centre’s well-known yellow door on Friday, November 24 by coordinator Lisa Almagro, who described the exhibition as a ‘magical collection of works’.
“We’ve got whimsy, quirky and curious,” said Mrs Almagro.
“We’ve got serious, realistic and detailed.
“Mixed media, mixed genres, mixed styles and all of it created by the extraordinary talents of artist Vicky Phelps from Rowena.
“More than 60 pieces to view and entry is free.”
The ‘Textures and Layers’ exhibition is still open for residents and visitors to enjoy.
Mrs Phelps also hosted a workshop at WWCACC, named The Painted Brush and enthusiastic and talented participants were able to create their own mixed media assemblage.
Mrs Almagro said the workshop was ‘sold out with a waiting list for classes in 2024’.
Narrabri Shire councillors John Clements and Rohan Boehm were in attendance and officially opened the exhibition, thanking guests for their continued support for the Wee Waa Community Arts and Cultural Centre, which is set to celebrate its third year in operation next March.
