Narrabri District Women’s Cricket Association’s 2023/24 season will get back underway this Saturday night as the sides take the field for their round seven games following the Christmas and New Year break.

The four teams all have three games left to play ahead of the preliminary final on Saturday, February 26, which will be followed by the grand final on Saturday, March 2.

The team that finishes first on the ladder at the end of the nine-round regular season will go straight through to the decider, in which they will take on the winner of the preliminary final match between the sides that finish ranked second and third.

The ladder leaders and defending champs Wahgunyah Dreamtime Mirri are the only team to have locked in a spot in the top three at this stage of the campaign. They are on 33 points following four wins and a loss from the five games they played before the break to go with a washed-out draw in round four when all of the teams missed out on their respective fixtures and all picked up four points.

Just one victory behind Wahgunyah Dreamtime Mirri on 27 points are GFS Engineering, who won three matches and lost twice during their five games before the break, and then a win back from them are Wilga Hotel, who won two games and lost three across the first six rounds.

At the bottom of the four-team table are Nandewar Motel, whose victory in round six heading into the break was their first of the season following four losses and a washed-out draw. It saw them move to 15 points to remain in the top-three hunt. They no longer remain in minor premiership contention but are well and truly in with a chance of playing in the preliminary final as they sit a win behind Wilga Hotel and two wins back from GFS Engineering.

This Saturday night’s round seven matches see GFS Engineering take on Nandewar Motel at Collins Park and Wahgunyah Dreamtime Mirri meet Wilga Hotel at Hogan Oval.

The NDWCA will be selling tickets on the night for their Pink Stumps Round raffle. Pink Stumps Round will be held on Saturday, February 10, during round eight, as the committee and the four teams aim to raise money for the local ‘Pink Up Namoi’ campaign, helping support breast cancer awareness and support.
