Students from across the district have returned to the classroom to start the 2024 school year and kindergarten students have made the step up to ‘big school’ life.

Back-to-school dates have varied across the region, Wee Waa Public School splashed into the new year hosting its popular swimming carnival during the first week back on Friday – much to the delight of students who were smiling from ear to ear and looked thrilled to be reunited with their classmates and teachers.

Years 1 to 6 students attended the school swimming carnival at the town pool, sporting their house colours – green for Barwon and yellow for Gwydir.

Teachers and support staff joined in the fun, with school learning support officer Jordann Hobden one of the best-dressed in a bright tutu.

Students in Years 1 and 2 did not participate in age races but embraced the novelty events.

Years 3 to 6 students were encouraged to participate in races, with qualifying students going on to represent WWPS at the Narrabri Zone carnival in a few weeks’ time.
