Narrabri Garden Club had a great start to the new year, hosting a well-attended meeting on February 14.
We were pleased to have Trish Lawty come along and speak to us about her passion for cacti.
Trish and her husband Kevin have been transforming their garden over many years into a world of cacti, as well as succulents, accumulating a collection of quite rare varieties along the way.
Their in-ground pool was filled in when the children left home and has become the focal point of their collection.
They are constantly on the lookout for new and unusual species.
Trish shared many hints and tips about the propagation, care and growth habits of cacti and succulents and answered many questions from members.
Thank you Trish for taking the time to come and share your wealth of knowledge.
Plans have already commenced for the possibility of a trip to the Bathurst Garden Festival later in the year.
A similar visit by the club some years ago proved very popular, with the beautiful slightly cooler climate gardens and the overall history of the area, and members are keen to go again.
Judy Wilson was the winner of our monthly bloom competition, with Joan Melbourne taking second place and Carolynne Tomlinson third.
These ladies go in the running to win the Jean Harris Memorial trophy, awarded at the end of each year to the highest point scorer.
We will be heading to Wee Waa for our next meeting on Wednesday, March 13.
Little House on Rose is our destination, an appropriate haven under the beautiful shade trees during such hot weather.
Although, let’s hope it is starting to cool down a bit by then.
As we will be car pooling, please meet at The Crossing theatre car park at 9am for a 9.15 departure.
For anyone needing a lift, please contact Noeline on 0427 922 340 or Sue on 0459 629 190.
