The Namoi Dry Cleaners has closed following the lease not being renewed as the owner of the heritage listed Faulkner’s building is intending to redevelop the site.
The former Faulkner’s Cordial factory has been the home of the Namoi Dry Cleaners since 2008.
The business serviced Narrabri and the broader area with agents in Moree, Coonabarabran and Boggabri for dry cleaning and laundry services.
The business has been owned by Bill Wood and Annie Moody since 2020 with a key team of valued staff working in the business.
Bill said they were keen to carry on providing the service to Narrabri, but the cost of moving to a new location and setting up the infrastructure was significant.
“In combination with other cost increases that are occurring, it did not make sense financially to invest the money to move to a new site”, Bill said.
“It has been a hard decision to make as Narrabri has had a dry cleaner for nearly 100 years.
“Like most businesses, we can’t just keep putting up our prices as people can’t afford it.
“With the increases we’ve seen in costs for electricity, insurance, fuel and wages, unfortunately the numbers just didn’t add up.
Bill said that he and Annie have been very appreciative of the assistance that they received from local tradesmen, real estate agents and the staff at the Narrabri Shire Council who provided advice to help find alternative premises.
Bill said he has been speaking with colleagues in the laundry and dry cleaning industry to encourage others to consider providing an ongoing service to Narrabri.
