A Christmas in July event was hosted by the Bellata branch of the CWA on Sunday, July 14, and the weather, in true English style, was cold with an early morning fog descending over the Bellata War Memorial Hall.
Despite the incremental weather, the event was well attended with more than 70 home-cooked roast dinners prepared followed by a selection of desserts.
Former Bellata resident Heather Roberts, now of Tamworth, was a welcome helper as the renowned caterer gave her assistance with cooking and serving the delicious fare.
The group was also ably assisted by some young junior member attendees on the day.
Alongside the local community, guests travelled from as far as Armidale, Curlewis, Willala, Wee Waa, Moree and Narrabri.
Special guests included the Car Club from Narrabri, the Lions Club of Moree, CWA members from the Namoi CWA Group, group president Mrs Sandra Hunter and the Moree branch of the CWA.
Patrons entered the venue with a lucky door prize offered of a generic $50 gift voucher, kindly donated by a local company and raffles were drawn.
Throughout the year so far the Bellata branch of the CWA has supported several local events, catering for the Bellata Public School Biggest Morning Tea, a local clearing sale, and the Moree Show presidents’ luncheon held in April.
In 2025 the Bellata branch will be celebrating 100 years since it was first formed, on July 4, 1925.
