Adam Taylor and Louise Penberthy are Narrabri Golf Club’s 2024 club champions following the fourth and final round at the club’s immaculate 18-hole course on Sunday.

Taylor is now an eight-time champ as he added to his 2000, 2003, 2009, 2013, 2020, 2021 (which was held in February of 2022 due to the COVID pandemic) and 2023 titles, while Penberthy is now a three-time champ following her victories in 2021 (which was also held in February of 2022 due to the COVID pandemic) and 2022.

This year’s 72-hole event differed slightly to previous years when the championships were held across two weekends. Round one was played on Saturday, August 10, round two was contested on Saturday, August 17, and rounds three and four were held on Saturday and Sunday, August 24 and 25.

Taylor scored a five-over-par 76 in both round one and round two, a one-under-par 70 in round three and then finished off with a six-over-par 77 in round four for a total score of 299, five off his best club championships score of 294 but 10 shots better than the 309 that saw him reign supreme in 2023.

He entered round three on Saturday with a three-shot lead over the 2024 Narrabri Open champ Karl Hatfield, which stretched to six when Taylor shot a 70 and Hatfield shot a 73. That was the third straight round that those two local golfers finished first and second, respectively, across 18 holes.

Hatfield finished the stronger of the duo on Sunday as he claimed the fourth round with a two-over-par 73, but Taylor managed to score a 77 to finish as the runner-up on the day and the overall winner of the four-round event by just two shots from Hatfield.

Luke Flood was next best with 322.

Taylor’s 72-hole score of 299 was his best total since he prevailed with a 296 in 2020, and he well and truly needed it to be as he fended off one of Narrabri’s top golfers in Hatfield, who finished with 301.

The 2024 ladies’ club championship was decided on a playoff hole after division one duo Penberthy and Leisa Eather both finished with 378 shots after four rounds.

Penberthy entered the weekend with a one-shot lead on 189 after she registered scores of 91 and 98 in rounds one and two while Eather was on 190 following a 93 and a 97. Penberthy was the gross winner in round three after shooting 91 and she entered day four with a four-shot lead over Eather, who finished day three as the gross runner-up with 94.

Eather was the gross runner-up again on Sunday and again she scored a 94, but this time it was Lyn Shearer who was the day’s gross winner with 93. Penberthy shot a 98 to finish tied on 378 with Eather, and they contested a playoff hole on the 18th to determine the champion, which Penberthy won.

Emily Flood claimed this year’s ladies’ division two title by 14 shots from Robin Ford. Flood was ahead by 15 shots going into day three and was the runner-up with 98, while Ford won the round with 97 to close the gap to 14 before they both scored 100 in round four to finish the event with 393 and 407, respectively.

Flood played rounds two to four as a division one golfer but was eligible for the division two title, given she played in that grade in round one.

The men’s B-grade winner was Blake Hilderson, who scored 330 across the four rounds to prevail by 12 shots from runner-up Adam Hatton (342).

The men’s C-grade winner was Scott Lamb, who shot 371 across the four rounds and won on a playoff hole on the 18th from Fred Atherden. Lamb trailed Atherden by four shots going into the final day before scoring a 91 to earn the round’s gross winner title and also tie with Atherden, who shot a 95.

Bob Taylor finished one shot behind them on 372 after he shot a 93 in the fourth round.

Gross winner – Louise Penberthy with 378, gross runner-up – Leisa Eather with 378, nett winner – June Lang with 313, nett runner-up – Lyn Shearer with 315.

Men’s B-grade:
Gross winner – Blake Hilderson with 330, gross runner-up – Adam Hatton with 342, nett winner – Bill Lang with 285, nett runner-up – Tony Nott with 293.

Ladies’ division two:
Gross winner – Emily Flood with 393, gross runner-up – Robin Ford with 407, nett winner – Kate Pitman with 305, nett runner-up – Ingrid Moulds with 322.

Men’s C-grade:
Gross winner – Scott Lamb with 371, gross runner-up – Fred Atherden with 371, nett winner – Mitch Cuell with 293, nett runner-up – Bob Taylor with 295.

Veterans:
Winner – Keith Flood with 324, nett winner – Bill Lang with 288.

Ted Barry memorial for best championships overall nett score – Blake Hilderson with 286.
