Narrabri Garden Club held its monthly meeting on August 14 and was thrilled to have Kath Hamilton come along and talk about her all-consuming work as a WIRES volunteer.

Kath brought along her current ‘baby’, a young joey which requires regular feeds around the clock.

As mothers ourselves, we all appreciate just how much effort and commitment Kath puts into each animal she nurtures until they are released back into their natural habitat or find a new home.

Kath has had to undertake courses, and has to meet National Parks and other government departmental guidelines.

When talking about kangaroos in particular, Kath said it’s important to know what species the joey is, and to determine its age as different species develop at different rates.

Her garden has been designed around the needs of her animals, with different trees and shrubs being favoured by different animals.

Kath has raised up to seven joeys at a time – what an amazing woman. Thank you Kath.

Kath Vinson, Lindy McMicking and Lyn Tuckey were the winners of the bloom competition, and Kay Holland took home the raffle prize. Congratulations ladies.

President Noeline Kiss advised the soup luncheon at the July meeting raised $400 for cancer research – a great result.

Narrabri Garden Club has received an invitation from Werris Creek Garden Club to their birthday lunch on Wednesday, September 25. Contact Sue Waugh or Noeline for RSVP details if you are interested in attending.

The next garden club meeting will be held next Wednesday, September 11 at the Scout Hall in Wukawa Street commencing at 10am (see classified for more details).

The club is very excited to welcome Robyn Bible back to Narrabri.

Robyn is from the Australian Geranium Society, and her knowledge of geraniums and pelargoniums, is nothing short of amazing.

Robyn visited us last year and has agreed to come back to the September meeting, so get your questions ready – as Robyn will have all the answers.

Visitors are always welcome, so if you would like to come and hear Robyn talk, you would be very welcome.

There is no admission cost, just $5 for morning tea, provided by the wonderful cooks within the garden club.
