Much travelled sisters drop into the Old Gaol Museum

Dunalley and Legana are not places we hear much about in Narrabri but recently two travellers from the two towns made a beeline for the Narrabri Old Gaol Museum.

Dunalley and Legana are in Tasmania, the home towns of sisters Angelina Petterd and Delia Hill.

They and their husbands, both Tonys, were on tour around ‘the main island’ when they parked their motorhome at the showground and the ladies called into the Narrabri Museum.

Like so many travellers they found much to interest them at the old gaol.

They have spent a few nights here and prior to arriving at the museum the visitors had come from Goondiwindi and will head on to Gunnedah.

They have been to the Fish Farm, Sawn Rocks, the Australia Telescope, Wee Waa, and the Visitor Information Centre to inspect the cotton picker on display.

“We have bought coffees and spent money here,” they added – just what the local tourism industry wants to hear.

The two couples are regular travellers and came across to the ‘main island’ on the Spirit of Tasmania, a night voyage embarking at Devonport and landing at Geelong.

Narrabri is one of the interesting places on the travellers’ agenda.

“We have been here and there – including the peanut museum at Kingaroy and the rabbit museum at Texas,” they said.

“Every town has something to offer.”

The sisters are much travelled, overseas and through Australia and will be heading back to Tassie at the end of September.

The Old Gaol Museum’s visitors’ book is a testament to the diversity of travellers coming through town with pages of compliments from residents of Port Hedland, WA, to Shepparton, Victoria, South Australia and the Isle of Man.
