Narrabri District Cricket Association hosted their 2024/25 season annual general meeting at Narrabri Bowling Club last Wednesday, where several significant changes arose ahead of the coming campaign.
The T20 Super Slog tournament will not go ahead this season and has been replaced by the return of the first grade club-based T20 competition. The second grade club-based T20 comp will run again as it did alongside the Super Slog in recent seasons.
The other significant change is that red ball cricket has been scrapped for the 2024/25 campaign. A proposal was put forward at the AGM that suggested all cricket this season, including one day cricket, would be played using the white ball and coloured uniforms, and it passed in a close vote.
There was doubt over the future of the Western Razorbacks going into this year’s AGM, but they nominated to play in the first grade competition again this season alongside Tourist Hotel, Tatts, and defending champs RSL. The three Narrabri clubs agreed that they would play day/night first grade games to help the Razorbacks get a team on the park each week if required.
RSL, Tourist Hotel and Tatts will also field second grade sides and will be joined by a new team, the Narrabri Colts, created by Mick Dowdell.
Another change that was locked in at the annual general meeting was the first grade comp going back to 40 overs with a 1pm start. The second grade competition will remain at 40 overs with a 1pm start as well.
The new season is expected to begin on Saturday, October 12, or possibly under lights on Friday, October 11.
The MA Connolly Cup representative competition will continue this season, and it is expected that the War Vets Cup will return as a T20 competition. The NDCA will field teams in both of those competitions.
