Narrabri business SierraTek Global has been recognised for its work at an international level as well as in innovation.

The business was among the awardees honoured at the Business NSW NENW awards dinner held in Gunnedah on Friday evening.

Jamie and Annette Condon accepted the accolades – one each in the international and innovation categories – and will now proceed to the state awards which will be held in Sydney in late October.

Mr Condon said the awards had come as a surprise given the calibre of industry in the large catchment area of the awards.

“It inspires us to continue what we are doing,” he said.

“The amount of energy and time you put into the business, it’s rewarding to get such recognition in a large area.

“We appreciate the recognition by Business NSW and the support of industry and sponsors.

“We are really appreciative of the support of our local and regional communities where we operate and for putting their faith in us.”

Mr Condon also praised the SierraTek team for contributing to the success of the business.

“A company is only as good as their employees and we’re very fortunate to have some of the best in the business. We couldn’t do it without them.”

The accolades are another feather in the cap for SierraTek which was named as Business of the Year at the Narrabri and District Chamber of Commerce Business Awards in 2023, recognising the important role of the business at a local, regional, national and international level.

SierraTek continues to make great strides in the international space, building strong relations with India in an import and export capacity.

The locally-owned business predominantly imports ginning machinery and components in support of the Australian cotton industry while it exports its automation and control technology for the benefit of Indian businesses.

SierraTek continues to export to Africa and the US. South America is also emerging as an export opportunity.

“We are also very much focused at home,” Mr Condon said.

The business is very active in the floodplain harvesting space, with water metering, and has exciting national control and automation projects in the pipeline.

SierraTek is also involved in the mining resources sector in the Hunter Valley. Continued growth in SierraTek’s work for the sector means the business is looking at expanding its Newcastle operations significantly.

“We want to get back to building our base at Narrabri and Newcastle,” Mr Condon said.

This includes creating more jobs in Narrabri as well as seeking more engineers in Newcastle.

The business also continues to seek opportunities in water security and is actively engaged in agtech.
