A team of Wee Waa and Lightning Ridge bowlers have progressed to North West Bowls’ 2024/25 season division four ladies’ pennants regional playoff final following a winning weekend at the Moree Services Bowling Club.
Wee Waa Bowling Club’s Melissa Allen, Renee Doring, Dot Dewson, Kay Dewson and Bree Pillar, Narrabri Bowling Club’s Lisa Pillar (who is a former
Wee Waa Bowling Club player), and Lightning Ridge’s Sheila Nagy, Heidi Monch and Debbie Ravot formed a composite team that played in section two of division four with Inverell.
The two teams played against one another twice on Saturday, and the Wee Waa/Narrabri/Lightning Ridge ladies prevailed in both fixtures to qualify for next month’s playoff final alongside the West Tamworth/North Tamworth team that topped section one after going through undefeated against Tamworth City and South Tamworth in Kootingal.
In the first game at Inverell Sporties on Saturday morning, the four Wee Waa players teamed up and defeated Inverell’s Janet Mepham, Kay Scott, Tori Bell and Susanne Gemmell 21 shots to 13, while Pillar and the three Lightning Ridge players went down 20 shots to 13 against Inverell’s Lynn Kachel, Pat Campbell, Belinda Emerson and Amanda Hawke.
Those two results saw the Wee Waa/Narrabri/Lighting Ridge team win 34 shots to 33 on the overall scoreboard and earn six of the seven competition points on offer.
They then got the job done in a more comfortable fashion that afternoon when they downed Inverell 55 shots to 21 and earned all seven points.
Inverell opted to keep the same teams for the second fixture but the Wee Waa/Narrabri/Lightning Ridge ladies switched it up, which worked wonders.
Debbie Ravot, Melissa Allen, Dot Dewson and Kay Dewson downed Janet Mepham, Kay Scott, Tori Bell and Susanne Gemmell 26 shots to 14, while Bree Pillar switched in for Renee Doring and teamed up with Heidi Monch, Sheila Nagy and her mother Lisa Pillar to defeat Lynn Kachel, Pat Campbell, Belinda Emerson and Amanda Hawke 29 shots to seven.
Narrabri Women’s Bowling Club entered a full team in division three and they placed second on their table after winning one game and losing two at Manilla Bowling Club.
