The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service’s Narrabri Support Group has celebrated a successful year of giving to the service so it can continue its life-saving missions across the region.

Support group chair Ros Kelly reflected on the fundraising activities conducted in the past year at the annual general meeting.

Fundraising throughout the year has included a charity golf day, raffles as well as barbecues at major events.

Regular barbecues held in front of McKechnies have also proven worthwhile.

Mrs Kelly thanked support group members for their outstanding contributions throughout the year.

“A lot of hard work and a lot of fun has gone into it,” she said.

Support group coordinator Kim Newling, of Tamworth, was in attendance and thanked for her continued assistance provided to the local group.

New officers elected were Ros Kelly (chair), Len Hall (vice chair), Ros Hall (treasurer), Kristy Nobilo (assistant treasurer), Lindy McMicking (secretary) and Jessica Wales (assistant secretary and publicity officer).

Across 24 years, the Narrabri support group has contributed more than $500,000 to the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service.

In the 2023-24 financial year, the service conducted 458 missions in the New England North West area.

Of these missions, 255 were conducted for medical conditions, 63 for motor vehicle incidents, 45 for motorcycle incidents, 19 falls, 19 industrial incidents, 16 farming incidents, seven burns and seven sporting incidents.

The number and variety of missions underpins the crucial role of the service in regional communities, including Narrabri.
