The Narrabri Region Visitor Information has been recognised for its excellent service as a finalist in the NSW Tourism Awards.

The council-operated facility will vie for top honours in the visitor information services category, competing alongside renowned destinations including the City of Newcastle, Dubbo Regional Council, Tweed Heads and other cities across the state.

Mayor Darrell Tiemens praised council’s tourism team on its efforts.

“The tourism team is doing a terrific job and it is being recognised around the state,” Cr Tiemens said.

“Narrabri Shire has found its voice and we’re not shy about bragging about what a great part of the world this is – from the peak of Mount Kaputar and down through the plains.”

Cr Tiemens thanked the shire’s towns and villages for being welcoming communities.

“When you list the attractions and places to visit, it’s actually a bit overwhelming,” Cr Tiemens said.

“This region has a lot to offer tourists, whether they’re staying a day or longer.”

The Narrabri Region Visitor Information Centre is brimming with fascinating information, Aboriginal storylines, delicious local and regional produce, and captivating displays.

Visitors can learn about the region’s attractions, explore local history, and read about regional innovative farming practices, technology, and other industries.

The tourism team is committed to ensuring visitors to the shire have a memorable experience and offer advice about local attractions as well as the services, shops, dining and accommodation facilities available in shire towns and villages.

A visit to the centre is a unique experience for tourists as it highlights a cotton display featuring a genuine giant red cotton picker that guests can climb into and “operate”. Another unique exhibit is titled ‘Kamilaroi Stories’ which highlights the region’s Aboriginal history and culture.

The friendly and knowledgeable staff are eager to assist visitors in planning their stay in the region.

An extensive selection of brochures, detailed maps, and informative visitor guides await at the Narrabri Visitor Information Centre, providing valuable resources for planning tours.

The centre offers a wide variety of local and regional produce, including local honey, condiments such as relishes, dressings, sauces, vinegars, and caramelised products, as well as jams, dried herbs and spices, olives, olive oil, macadamia oil, snacks, nuts, and the centre’s own product, Cottonseed Oil.

In addition to the produce, visitors can find a fantastic selection of souvenirs to commemorate their time in the region.

The tourism team is proud of the extensive services and products offered and is grateful for the state-wide recognition.

The winners will be announced on Thursday, November 28 at the NSW Tourism Gala event at The Star Sydney incorporating the NSW Tourism Awards.
