The Narrabri District Junior Cricket Association representative under-13s team played their first home game of the 2024/25 season George Denton Shield competition at Leitch Oval on Sunday, and they went down in a one-wicket thriller against Gunnedah in the round two clash.
The hosts won the toss and elected to bat before being bowled out for 64 runs in 25.3 overs.
Blair Lennox (15) was the Narrabri side’s top run-scorer with 15 from 20 deliveries, while Gunnedah skipper Owen Rixon led the way with the ball with 3-12 from four overs.
The hosts gave themselves a chance to win as Jonty O’Connor (4-12 from three overs), Archie Greenaway (2-8 from three overs), Bill McMahon (1-5 from two overs), Johnathon Wilson (1-7 from one over) and a runout from Blair Lennox made the score 9-53 in the 15th over.
However, a 12-run partnership got Gunnedah home as Tyler Small (7*) and Millie Small (2*) stood tall to help their team score a one-wicket win.
Narrabri won their first game two weeks earlier and will go searching for their second win of the season this Sunday when they travel to Moree.
