NSW SES Boggabri Unit hosted an awards evening last week where members were awarded and recognised for their commitment to the NSW SES and the Boggabri community.
The highlight of the evening was the announcement and presentation of the National Medal to Chris Rixon.
The awards night was a proud moment for the Boggabri Unit, highlighting the commitment of the volunteers but also the vital role the SES plays in ensuring the safety and resilience of the local community.
Special guests NSW SES Deputy Zone Commander Paul Perusic and Narrabri Shire mayor Darrell Tiemens attended the event, congratulating the members and expressing their appreciation for the vital role the SES plays in protecting the region.
The volunteers have been giving up many hours, both during the week as well as weekends learning and perfecting new skills.
Deputy Zone Commander Paul Perusic explained to the attendees that Chris Rixon is Unit Commander, Boggabri Unit, NSW SES and was awarded his 15-year long service award and a National Medal.
Mr Perusic said: “The National Medal recognises long and diligent service, by members of recognised government and voluntary organisations, that risk their lives or safety to protect or assist the community in times of emergency or natural disaster.”
“Nominations are made by the NSW SES Commissioner’s Office to the Governor-General’s Office, however, it is the Governor-General who awards the National Medal.”
