Narrabri Red Cross members gathered at the treasurer Kath Davis’ home on Wednesday, June 4, for their trauma teddy stuffing session accompanied by a morning tea.

There was a delicious spread of scones, slices, biscuits and of course a cup of tea or coffee for everyone. But, back to the teddies!

With ten pairs of hands at work, the ladies (and one gent), with the company of Max Pringle, stuffed and sewed up two full bags worth of teddies, and more to come.

The Narrabri Red Cross send these snuggly friends, as well as rugs and just recently, beanies, to local hospitals, the dentistry, and occasionally preschools around the shire.

Red Cross treasurer Kath Davis has been knitting teddies for nearly a decade and continues to create these small beacons of comfort.

“They go where they are needed, to anyone, of any age,” Kath said.

“It’s wonderful to be a part of something that has been helping communities all throughout Australian history.

“I believe we were all put on this earth to help one another.

“I am very fortunate to work with some marvellous volunteers at Red Cross who share that same vision.

As well as the teddy task at hand, it was a lovely chance for the group to catch up over some special treats and discuss what’s coming up.

“We will be running a Father’s Day raffle and morning tea soon, with all proceeds going straight to the recent flood-affected areas on the coast,” Kath added.

Kath and the Red Cross family are constantly looking for volunteers, especially young people to bring fresh perspectives and ideas.

“It is so important that the Australian Red Cross continues to operate in small country towns like Narrabri, so the more young people we can attract to join, the better,” Kath said.
