Three local pistol shooters returned home from Inverell as national champions after excelling at Target Pistol Australia’s 2025 Big Bore Metallic Silhouette and Small Bore and Field Pistol National Championships last month.
Junior shooter Chase Ford and experienced duo Jason Anderson and Tim Anderson rose to the occasion at the annual event, which was contested at Inverell RSM Pistol Club’s Delungra Range from Saturday, September 13, to Saturday, September 20.
Chase secured four national championships, which included two individual titles and two as a member of NSW teams. The 15-year-old rising star won the junior 200-metre big bore four-match aggregate and the junior 100-metre small bore four-match aggregate national titles. He also placed second in the junior field pistol aggregate, and he finished the week with several grade placings as well.
The champion of the junior field pistol aggregate was Muswellbrook’s Lachlan Yule, who Chase teamed up with in the NSW team to take out the event’s junior small bore and junior field pistol teams titles.
Jason Anderson claimed one individual and two teams national championships at the event. The Narrabri shooter took out the open field pistol two-match aggregate title, and also teamed up with two Inverell men to claim national titles for NSW as he won big bore production with Glen Anderson and big bore revolver with Tim Davey.
Fellow Narrabri shooter Tim Anderson took out the big bore revolver national title.
More than fifty competitors travelled from NSW, Queensland, ACT and Victoria to shoot at the event, all with the goal of winning the national championship medals.
There were eleven individual matches shot over the eight days across distances of 25, 50, 75 and 100 metres in the small bore and field pistol matches, and 50, 100, 150 and 200 metres in big bore matches.
Open, women’s and junior individual titles were up for grabs, as were the state teams events.
Shooting conditions were generally quite good across the week, with only one fall of 25ml of rain on the Friday night, which did not materially affect the competition.
Nine Narrabri Pistol Club members competed across the eight days, all of which were involved in numerous shoot-offs for top 10 and grade placings.
