The hot and windy weather this past week certainly posed a challenge for gardeners, but it didn’t dampen spirits at the Boggabri United Hospital Auxiliary Flower show.

Gardeners brought their finest blooms, offering a colourful and diverse showcase of talent and dedication.

While the entries were minimal in some sections the judge, Noeline Kiss from Narrabri, had the tough job of choosing the winning entries and explaining many aspects a judge will look for such as the form of a rose, unblemished flowers and leaves, the difference between a vase and a bowl and a collection and arrangement.

Robyn Watson took out the Judges Champion exhibit with her amazing collection of natives and had everyone talking about her impressive arrangement of weeds.

The day incorporated a colouring-in section and the white board and all the windows were an array of talent and colours.

Numerous visitors commented: ‘I’m glad I didn’t have to judge these.’

Visitors took full advantage of the well-stocked plant stall featuring a broad selection of plants suitable for gardens both big and small.

The event also featured fantastic home-cooked goodies with a couple of customers coming back to purchase more after tasting their original purchases.

Tea, coffee, cold water and freshly cooked scones with cream and jam provided the perfect spot to catch up with friends.

Boggabri has a very caring community and the raffle was testament to this.

Three wonderful prizes were donated.

Colleen Scott donated a massive basket of goodies for the raffle, Max Lee a respite patient at the Boggabri MPS donated a painting and Fran Jackson a bag of potting mix to go with two pot plants.

Tracey Foote, Boggabri branch UHA president said: “it has been a lovely day with some beautiful and amazing displays, and considering the weather this week today has been exceptional.”

The Boggabri branch of the UHA are a devoted group actively fundraising to provide equipment for the local hospital with the aim of enhancing the acute care patients and people in residential care a more positive experience.

They would welcome new fundraising ideas and more volunteers.
