The Christmas season at Boggabri Doctor John Prior Multi-Purpose Service has once again come alive with festive cheer, as staff celebrated their much-anticipated second annual Christmas door decoration competition.
Known as, ‘the most competitive time of the year’, this event brought teams from every department in a spirited showcase of creativity and community spirit.
Fourteen doors were allocated throughout the facility.
Staff members transformed their workspaces with colourful decorations including, fairy lights, baubles and an abundance of Christmas creativity, and flair.
There has been a lot of negotiation throughout the building.
Staff have had to endure storm damage repairs, tradies knocking down walls, jack hammering of tiles, sanding floors, painting and replacing of carpet while spreading the joy.
It’s more than just a contest, it’s an opportunity for colleagues to collaborate, share laughs, and spread joy throughout the workplace and bring smiles to the residents.
Several staff have commented on the resident’s joy at seeing the colourful displays, bringing back memories of what they did as children, and what their grandchildren are now doing at Christmas.
The doors were judged among the renovation chaos with the presentation of the perpetual trophy and certificates during morning tea with residents on Tuesday.
The winners received a hand made trophy crafted by nurse educator Astrid Chapman.
The judges had a tough time picking a winner.
They narrowed it down to four doors, any one in their own right could have been number one, however, they gave first place Boggabri Ochre Doctors surgery/Laverty Pathology staff.
Highly commended certificates were presented to the other three door teams, Education room, Activity room, Hotel Services Team, ‘Elves Pole dancing’.
Although it was not a door, Caroline Lord went over and beyond with decorating the entrance to the Aged Care wing.
The judges were so impressed with the beautiful and cheerful display that they gave a special award, ‘Extra Commitment to Christmas Spirit’.
“It’s like walking into a little Christmas wonderland, it’s beautiful, attractive and cheerful”, was how the judges described the display.
Health service manager Amanda Boxsell accepted the award on behalf of Caroline Lord as Caroline was on night shift and was asleep during the presentation.
