One of the biggest and best twilight mixed netball seasons in many years came to an end last Thursday as Narrabri Netball Association hosted the grand final of the senior competitive division at the Bev Burrows Courts.

A week after the social campaign had wrapped up, Nets Go To The Pub and Hoop Hustlerz met in the final game of the year, and it was Nets Go To The Pub who prevailed to secure a minor and major premiership double.

They entered the decider having won eight of their nine matches during the regular season, and Hoop Hustlerz were only two points behind them after winning seven of their nine games to finish three wins clear of the third-placed side.

The two teams produced a tight, entertaining decider, and it was Nets Go To The Pub who got the job done as they prevailed 31-27.

They outscored Hoop Hustlerz eight goals to four in the first quarter and then six goals to four in the second to establish a 14-8 advantage at half-time.

Hoop Hustlerz managed to outscore them in the third and fourth quarters, but only by one goal in each term as Nets Go To The Pub turned a 23-18 three-quarter-time lead into a 31-27 win.

NNA life member Ellen Gleeson was courtside for the match and presented the player of the grand final trophy, which was awarded to Nets Go To The Pub’s Connor Hill.

Narrabri Netball Association’s president Nikki Connole told The Courier it was a fantastic way to wrap up an enjoyable season.

“It was a really great season, and we got some really good feedback. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, which was good,” Connole said.

“There were some challenges too. Teams had to supply umpires, and we had them so they weren’t umpiring their own games, and there were some hiccups with people not showing up, but it was all trial and error, so next season we will all know the way it’s going to work.

“I thought the competitive division grand final was really good. The super shot that we had in the final two minutes of the quarters when the music was playing brought the game together.

“It was a close game, and it felt like either side could have won it towards the end.

“Our social season ended the week before, and that was a really fun night.

“At half-time of all the games, the teams did the nutbush in the middle of the courts, and we have some ideas for next year too, like holding a shooting competition and other things.

“I’d also like to thank our umpires, Mackenzie Knox, Lorna Gleeson and Fee Redfern, and our committee thanks the community and all of the players for their support.”

Connole said that the committee and players are now excited to host an even bigger and better twilight mixed season in 2026.
