A busy and exciting year awaits the local tennis community in 2026, and Narrabri Tennis got it off and running with a school holiday clinic at Dangar Park Tennis Centre last week.

Head coach Shane Murphy ran the clinic from Monday through to Thursday and welcomed 25 keen youngsters who he put through their paces, focusing on many skills required in the sport.

“It was one of our Australian brand clinics and it was a really good week. There were a few AO prizes on offer that were sent to us from Tennis Australia,” Murphy said.

“It was pretty warm with a bit of wind, and we had good numbers with a lot of newcomers and a lot of our court regulars.

“We had our four days and covered all of the basic tennis skills, and as usual it was really good to see on Wednesday and Thursday how the kids started putting together everything they had learned over the first couple of days.”

Murphy said he thought that the clinic was the perfect way to welcome in a busy year, which will ramp up in early February when full-time coaching returns, several players travel to play in state high school tournaments, and the Regional Matchplay Series gets underway.

“Narrabri will have two RMS tournaments here again this year,” Murphy said.

“It’s always good to have two of them here. We have the facilities and the committee to make it one of the best RMS locations on the calendar.

“The first event for the year will kick off in February in Armidale.

“We’ve had a few kids on court already getting the rust out to get ready for that.”
