Narrabri District Women’s Cricket Association’s four teams will all get an extra week to either prepare for or qualify for the finals following the recent announcement that the 2025/26 season has been extended by one week.

The regular season was initially scheduled to wrap up with round nine matches last Friday and Saturday, but a prior change saw rounds eight and nine combined for an evening of super 10s action on Saturday instead.

Since that change, the committee has opted to push the grand final date back one week from February 14 to February 21, allowing an extra T20 match for each team to be played this week.

The fixtures will see Redfern Contracting meet Wilga Hotel while Wahgunyah Dreamtime Mirri and GFS Engineering go head-to-head. Those matches will be played at Hogan Oval and Leitch Oval on Saturday from 7pm.

GFS Engineering are currently ranked fourth but are just two points behind Wilga Hotel with one round remaining. That means that if the undefeated Redfern Contracting can get the job done against Wilga Hotel during the final round, a GFS Engineering win would see them claim third place, while a tie would also see them climb into third and earn a spot in the preliminary final.

A Wilga Hotel victory would secure third place and a spot in the preliminary final for them.

Redfern Contracting have already wrapped up the minor premiership and automatic grand final qualification as they sit 12 points clear of Wahgunyah, who cannot finish any higher or lower than second.

The two top-ranked sides were both victorious in the two Super 10 matches played on Saturday evening.

The other two matches were abandoned after Wilga Hotel forfeited their round eight fixture against Redfern Contracting as well as their round nine fixture against GFS Engineering.

Wahgunyah were the only team to play their two scheduled games, and they won the first of those in a tight tussle against GFS Engineering.

GFS batted first after Wahgunyah won the toss and elected to bowl, and they made 6-21 from their 10 overs.

Wahgunyah then chased down the required total in seven overs, having lost four batters to win the match by six wickets.

Velvet Craigie starred in that contest for the Wahgunyah side as she took a match-best 3-0 from her two overs and also chipped in with a runout during one of the overs that she bowled.

Molly Welsh (2-4 from two overs) took the side’s other two wickets, while Rebecca Gibbs was GFS’s best with the bat with an unbeaten three runs.

GFS came out firing early in the second innings as Sandy Smith and Chloe Harvey claimed two wickets each to knock over Wahguyah’s top four batters for a combined four runs to make the score 4-7 after two overs.

However, Menzie Baker (5*) and Craigie (8*) steadied the ship and steered Wahgunyah home to a six-wicket win.

Wahgunyah then backed up for their second game of the evening when they took on Redfern Contracting, and they batted first after they were sent in by Tori-Ann Geraghty.

They produced a far more composed batting effort in that match as they made 2-42 from their 10 overs, but Redfern Contracting got the job done as they chased down the required total in the last over of the game to win by seven wickets.

Redfern Contracting took both of their wickets in the first innings in quick succession as Kerri Atkin bowled Welsh (5) in the second over before Geraghty trapped Angie Knox (2) in front LBW in the third.

That made the score 2-10 before Fiona Redfern (17*) and Lidia McCauley (8*) guided their side to 2-42.

Craigie then backed up her heroics from the previous match with a wicket off the first ball of the second innings as she bowled Kristy Toomey for a golden duck.

However, Jade Williams (18) and Amy Trindall (11) then got their side’s innings on track with a 37-run partnership.

Williams was dismissed by Brogan Morris in the seventh over before Welsh bowled Trindall in the eighth, but Geraghty (6*) guided the Redfern Contracting ladies to victory and hit the winning runs in the 10th over.
