Retail has always been part of Ellie Gett’s life, and it’s a passion she has fully embraced since being at the helm of Barrakets Shop 2 from May last year.

Ellie has fond memories of visiting the Narrabri store as a child, when the business was operated by her mum, Monique, and spent her teenage and early adult years learning the ropes of retail.

“I’ve grown up with it. It’s just always been there in my life,” Ellie said of Barrakets.

With her grandmother also working at the original Barrakets store, being part of a local fashion retail business is well and truly in Ellie’s blood.

Since taking the reins of what is a Narrabri institution, Ellie has added her own flair to the business by introducing new brands and products, and keeping up-to-date with the latest trends. The business continues to offer fashion across babies, kids, men and women as well as gifts and accessories.

While Ellie has introduced new products, she acknowledged it was important to keep the store’s previous offering to ensure it has styles to suit all ages and tastes.

“We’ve also introduced a new till system as well as an online store,” Ellie said.

Ellie is also eager to grow their social media following.

However, her ultimate goal and intent is to ensure Narrabri continues to have access to local retail.

“We want to make sure we have this service here and offer a broad range for everyone,” she said.

For this International Women’s Day article, Ellie was asked about the strongest female influence in her life.

She was quick to pinpoint her mum, Monique, for teaching her about having a strong work ethic as well as the importance of customer service.

Ellie also acknowledged the importance of having a close support network of family and friends to share ideas with.

“I love it when people share ideas,” Ellie said. “Running a big store, asking people for their input is a great help.”
