The local golfing community came together to raise awareness of and funds for an important cause on Sunday when Narrabri Golf Club held its 2026 Can Assist Narrabri charity ambrose.
There were 124 players who took part across 31 teams in the 18-hole four-person ambrose match.
The event also included a silent auction, raffle and 100 clubs, which helped raise about $12,000 for Can Assist Narrabri.
Can Assist has more than 50 branches across Country NSW and is committed to making the journey with cancer easier for rural and regional NSW communities.
The Narrabri branch has supported between 30 and 40 patients since getting back up and running in December of 2024, and committee president Natalie Gourley told The Courier that the success of the golf day would have a positive impact moving forward.
“It was a great day. A big thanks to everyone who played. We were overwhelmed with the generosity of everyone who was there,” she said.
“We were also very thankful to have had the opportunity to talk about Can Assist and to let people know exactly what it is.
“It is there for anybody who is out there and might need assistance.”
Narrabri Golf Club golfer and venue manager Wade Foster labelled the event a major success.
“A fantastic day on the course for our Can Assist Charity Golf Day,” a Narrabri Golfie social media post read this week.
“A huge thank you to all the players who took part, our generous sponsors, and everyone who supported the silent auction, raffles and 100 clubs. Your support and generosity helped make the day such a success.
“We truly appreciate everyone who contributed to raising funds for a great cause.
“A big thank you to Mark Campbell and his team for having the course looking as good as it does.”
