Round eight of Narrabri Touch’s 2026 campaign season one mixed competition will be the last time the teams take the field at Cooma Oval ahead of the mid-season switch to Hogan Oval and Leitch Oval to play under lights.
Daylight saving time will end on Monday, April 6, and there will be a full round bye that day for the Easter long weekend before the season resumes over at the town fields in round nine on Monday, April 13.
The weather will start to get colder when that date arrives, but the season will begin to heat up as the run towards the finals gains momentum.
Round seven fixtures this week all went ahead at Cooma Oval. Pool A winners were Hammertime, Priag Patriots and Cougars, and the Pool B winners were the Hounddogs, Pelicans and Richard’s Metaland Steelers.
Hammertime were the big winners in round seven as they maintained a clean sheet against Win Or Booze as they were guided to a dominant 7-0 victory by a Joe Baker hat-trick.
Charlotte Penberthy, Frazer Penberthy, Lidia McCauley and Nick Coffey also scored tries in that win, which was the undefeated Hammertime’s sixth in as many matches as they moved to 18 points.
They are now two wins clear of the Sprayerbarn Spinouts, who lost their second game of the year on Monday when they were edged out 5-4 by Priag Patriots to finish the night on 14 points.
Third-placed Cougars are now one win behind the Spinouts on 12 points after they downed Tradies and Ladies 6-4 on Monday, which saw Tradies and Ladies drop from fourth to fifth as they were joined on 11 points by the Patriots.
Win Or Booze are still winless and in last place, now on six points following six straight losses to start the season.
Hounddogs remained undefeated and on top of the Pool B ladder after they beat The Kerrigans 4-2 in their round seven clash. Hounddogs have played five matches so far this season, four of which they have won to go with a draw, leaving them with 14 points.
Just one point behind them in second place are fellow round seven winners, Pelicans, who also scored their fourth victory on Monday when they took down One Hit Wonders 9-5.
That result saw One Hit Wonders drop from second to third and finish the round with 12 points.
The other round seven match saw Richard’s Metaland Steelers outscore JWG Livewires 6-4 to earn their second victory of the year. That saw them join their opponents on nine points to end the night, and they are both one point behind fourth-placed side The Kerrigans.
RSL Guys and Gals had the bye and remained on five points following a winless start to the 2026 season.
