A major light and entertainment event is set to transform Narrabri tomorrow evening, with NarraBRIGHT 2026 promising a night of colour, creativity and community.
The event will turn the Narrabri CBD, including Maitland Street, Dewhurst Street and the Narrabri Creek Parklands, into an illuminated festival space featuring large-scale projections, immersive installations, food vendors and live entertainment.
Mayor Darrell Tiemens said the event had become a key date on the local calendar and encouraged both residents and visitors to attend.
“NarraBRIGHT has become a highlight on our events calendar, and this year’s expanded footprint means there is more to see, do and explore than ever before,” Cr Tiemens said.
“We’re inviting locals and visitors alike to come into town, support our businesses and experience Narrabri in a whole new light.”
Visitors will be able to explore an illuminated creek pathway, view projection art along Maitland Street and enjoy market stalls and family-friendly activities throughout the evening.
Highlights include immersive installations by leading lighting artists, interactive children’s experiences, the Centacare carnival zone, Solasta fairy garden, NDCAS activity zone, Essential Energy sensory-friendly garden and a program of live performances.
Event manager and council’s small business liaison officer Gillian Goddard said the festival had broad appeal.
“Whether you’re coming for the lights, the food, the entertainment or simply the atmosphere, NarraBRIGHT is all about bringing people together and creating a memorable night out for the whole community.”
Several road closures will be in place on the day to support the event, including sections of Maitland, Dewhurst and Tibbereena streets, as well as the oval ring access road. Closures will begin from early afternoon and remain in effect until late evening.
Motorists have been advised to move vehicles ahead of closure times and follow signage and directions on the day.
The Narrabri Creek Pathway is also closed until April 13 between Collins Park and Leitch Oval to allow for event setup and pack down.
NarraBRIGHT is funded by the NSW government’s Open Streets Program in partnership with Narrabri Shire Council, which secured $350,000 over three years for the initiative.
Minister for Transport John Graham said the program was helping communities reimagine how public spaces are used.
“Too often our main streets are something we drive through, rather than drive to. As this event highlights, we can use our streets to bring communities together and drive revenue for local businesses.
“Through the Open Streets program, the Minns Labor government is making it easier for councils across NSW to activate their streets, cutting red tape and supporting local events like NarraBRIGHT”.
