Feathers were nearly flying, tails were wagging and much-loved pets were on parade as Wee Waa’s popular pet show brought together creatures great and small – from a horse and goat to chooks, dogs and even yabbies.

The treasured tradition at the Wee Waa Show gives school students and younger exhibitors the chance to show off their beloved pets, with about 15 categories catering for everything from the largest pet to the Most Faithful Friend section.

The Wee Waa Show pet competition was held at the Fred Bullen Pavilion, with enthusiastic entrants competing for ribbons and the chance to claim the Myley Kate Maxwell Memorial Trophy for Champion Show Pet.

The award was established in honour of Myley Kate Maxwell and this year the Champion Show Pet went to Princess, Austin Leggett-Mortimer’s pet goat wearing some hot pink leg warmers.

Among the highlights of the competition was the Largest Pet category, where Stella Dickinson was awarded first place and Laycey Maxwell second.

Laycey Maxwell also took out second in the Smallest Pet category, with Freddie Crutcher winning first place.
The Most Unusual Pet section attracted six entries and was won by Austin Leggett-Mortimer, with Eli Leggett-Mortimer second and Laycey Maxwell third.

Not surprisingly, man’s best friend – the dog – dominated the Faithful Friend section, with Carter Freeman taking first place. Laycey Maxwell was second and Eli Leggett-Mortimer was third.

Carter Freeman continued the winning form in the Toy Dog section, with Ruby Head second and Laycey Maxwell third.
The Large Dog first prize was won by Laycey Maxwell, with Bethany Freeman taking second.

Laycey Maxwell was also a winner in the Puppy section and also proved victorious in the Pet That Enjoys Water category.
The creativity of the young exhibitors was in the spotlight as pets paraded for the best Decorated Dog title, with Laura Dickinson taking home the blue, first-place ribbon, Ruby Head second and Carter Freeman third.

The pet show once again proved to be a crowd favourite, celebrating prize-winning pets, their devoted owners and the great companionship animals provide, especially to country children.
