Narrabri students tackle City to Surf

A mix of fun and satisfaction at accomplishing personal challenges was how some Narrabri district runners summed up their participation in this year’s 14km Sydney City to Surf on 9 August. Chloe Cameron and Benjamin Taylor were part of a team of almost 200 runners from The Armidale School that participated in Australia’s largest fun run, involving almost 80,000 people and stretching from Hyde Park to Bondi Beach. Shire adopts amended designs for town, village entry signs

Narrabri Shire Council has adopted amended designs for new entry signs at towns and villages. Earlier this year, the council released interim designs for signs to be located at Baan Baa, Bellata, Boggabri, Edgeroi, Gwabegar, Maules Creek, Narrabri, Pilliga and Wee Waa for public consultation. Many community submissions were received, particularly encouraging the use of different colours. Community invited to have say on draft bushfire risk plan

Residents across the Namoi Gwydir region are being invited to have their say on a draft plan aimed at reducing the impact of bushfires over the next five years. The Namoi Gwydir Bush Fire Management Committee has placed its draft Bush Fire Risk Management Plan on public exhibition, giving the community an opportunity to provide feedback on proposed strategies to manage bushfire risks. The plan maps and describes bushfire risks across the region and outlines treatment strategies designed to minimise and mitigate those risks. Violet Street bridge upgrade budget amended

Narrabri Shire Council has adopted an amended budget for the $7m replacement of the Violet Street bridge following a project delay. The council had previously announced the completion of the bridge would be delayed after piling works had taken longer than anticipated. Variations to the project has meant that additional costs will come from a $400,000 contingency allocated towards the project. At last week’s meeting, councillors were informed that the contractor had been on-site for eight weeks longer than expected with the variation for time and costs amounting to $498,131.
