On Saturday, the Wee Waa community did what it does best: it rallied for a local in need. The sun came out after the rain as friends and family flocked to the Wee Waa Golf Club to support the Family Fun Day event for Piper Maxwell. Organisers said they were overwhelmed by the generosity of attendees, who dug deep and travelled from near and far to get behind the important day. Narrabri Portrait Prize paints a picture of our region

The Narrabri Portrait Prize: Local Lives exhibition has certainly been the talk of the town, showcasing familiar faces, unveiling local artistic talent and celebrating a diverse mix of stories from across our wonderful region. Katherine Harvey was named the Major Prize winner of the inaugural Narrabri Portrait Prize for her watercolour painting of her brother and local identity, Denis Harvey. Lucie Wightman preselected for the Nationals in Barwon

A Gilgandra-based newspaper publisher has been preselected to contest the seat of Barwon for the NSW Nationals at the March state election. Lucie Wightman was officially announced as the party’s candidate for the state’s largest electorate following a preselection event held in Nyngan. Ms Wightman, a former regional newspaper journalist, has owned the Gilgandra Weekly since 2016 after purchasing the publication at the age of 28. She is a life member of the state’s peak newspaper body, Country Press NSW, and had previously served as the association’s president for several years. Last week’s edition featured some fabulous photos, captured by Penny Vella of the Wee Waa High School formal. Before the formal, the school held an assembly to congratulate, farewell and thank the class of 2026, while also welcoming the incoming leadership team of Ruby Graham, Ruby Clayton, Ava Smith and Madeleine Broadbent.
