The curtain has now officially closed on Bella Stewart’s incredible secondary schooling athletics career.

Bella, the daughter of Greg Stewart and Sonia Gordon, has dominated state secondary high jump since she started Year 7 back in 2013.

The 17-year-old was recently recognised for her success when she was awarded one of NSWCHS’ highest honours – a blue award.

In what was a busy week for Bella she also competed at the 2018 All Schools Championships in Cairns at Barlow Park where she placed third in the 18-years high jump.

While blue and bronze were the colours of the week, Bella will always be remembered as a ‘golden girl’ – Narrabri High School’s golden girl, Bellata’s golden girl, the entire Narrabri Shire’s golden girl.

Bella travelled to ANZ Stadium in Sydney on Friday, November 30, to receive the blue award.

She was presented the award in the venue’s corporate area by 24-year-old slalom paddler Jessica Fox who stood on the podium at two consecutive Olympics after claiming a silver at the London 2012 Games and then a bronze four years later in Rio de Janeiro.

Recipients of the prestigious blue awards must have competed at CHS carnivals, and must have done so at an elite level.

Bella claimed her sixth high jump gold medal earlier this year in what was her sixth CHSNSW carnival since 2013, clearly exemplifying what it is to be elite.

There were about 136,000 NSW secondary public school students who competed at CHS carnivals throughout 2018. Only 63 of those students received a blue award which highlights the prestige of the award.

In receiving the award Bella has joined the likes of Steve Waugh (cricket), Ian Thorpe (swimming), Dani Samuels (track and field) and Mo’onia Gerrard (netball).
