The Armidale School’s girl rowers are confident months of preparation will result in season best times at their ultimate events at the NSW Schoolgirl Head of the River to be held at the Sydney International Regatta Centre this Saturday.
For the first time at the Schoolgirl championships the TAS girls will be hitting the water in a Four (rowing with single sweep oars) rather than a Quad (two oars per rower), as well racing as a single sculler, all over 2000 metres.
Training commenced in November, with the rowers also attending camps and regattas at Grafton and Taree during the school holidays, and the NSW Rowing Championships and Sydney Rowing Club regattas at the SIRC this term.
Narrabri’s Kim Bange, the daughter of Gina and Michael Bange, is the TAS girls’ captain of boats.
The Year 12 student said that she and her team were confident of performing on the big stage.
“We’ve all taken to sweep well and confident we can improve on our personal best time set at Sydney Rowing Club regatta two weeks ago and finish the season well,” Kim said.
