The Northwest Speedway Club hosted its second racenight of the 2018-19 season on Saturday at the Newtown Park Speedway Track.

About 600 spectators watched on as the Formula 500 NSW Title was contested, along with a round of the Micro Sprints State Cup and support divisions fender benders and street stockers.

The Formula 500 NSW Title was won by Sydney’s Lachlan Caunt, while the Microsprints feature race was won by Brisbane’s Ernie Havas.

There was one local winner on the night as Boggabri’s Doug Squires took out the 10-lap fender bender feature.

Northwest Speedway president Gary Rodd was pleased with the success of the night.

“It was a very good night,” Rodd told The Courier.

“We estimate that there were about 600 spectators on the hill at this stage which was really, really good.

“Everyone stayed until the feature which was very good.

“The street stockers put on a very good show as did the benders.

“The Formula 500 NSW Title was very, very good racing, it was very fast.

“The club is very happy with the night.

“It’s great to think that we can attract drivers from a wide area who want to come and race here at Narrabri.

“It says a lot about the club.

“The whole thing is family oriented and there was a lot of families out there on the hill on Saturday.

“The whole idea is to give back to the community.”

Rodd said that the future looked bright for the club.
