Locally-owned-and-trained pacer Kid Montana is in the form of his life.
On Easter Monday the four-year-old was crowned the 2019 Narrabri Cup winner at the Narrabri Harness Racing Club’s annual TAB meeting, just eight days after he won the Wee Waa Cup at the club’s non-TAB meeting.
It was his third victory in a row, and his sixth top-three finish in his past seven starts.
Driven by local reinsman and part owner Chris Shepherdson, Kid Montana flew down the final straight at the Narrabri Paceway on Monday in race five to a 14-metre victory.
Running behind Kid Montana in second place was another locally-trained pacer.
Driven by Tamworth reinsman Tom Ison the Jarred Hetherington-trained Lexy Can Wait placed second to complete what was a remarkable Narrabri Cup quinella.
Four-year-old brown horse Kid Montana is owned by a group of family and friends in Narrabri including Peter, Garry and Chris Shepherdson, Charles and Nathan Dicks, and Neil (Tad) Drysdale.
Kid Montana has now won 11 times from 38 starts after Monday’s Narrabri Cup heroics.
Chris Shepherdson was in the driver’s seat for eight of those victories, including the pacer’s winning run in his first race on March 11, 2018, at Armidale.
Shepherdson said that Monday’s victory was one of the most special of those for him.
