The Wee Waa Show reflected this year’s theme of ‘Celebrating our local community’.

“I thought it was fabulous,” said Georgie Haire, who was named the 2019 Wee Waa Senior Showgirl.

“I think everyone really enjoyed themselves.”

Georgie said it was great to see a large number of people coming through the gates despite the drought and enjoy the Show’s many attractions, that the tireless committee had worked so hard to present.

“The quality of entries was amazing – the horses, cattle and all the sections in the pavilion.”

Wood chopping icon Phillip Melbourne opened the Show on Friday and was presented with Life Membership of the Wee Waa Show.

Bill Humphries also received the same great honour.

Mr Melbourne joked that he couldn’t believe they’d asked “an old broken down axeman to open the show” but said he was “very honoured”.

Wee Waa High School student Alice Haire was named the 2019 Junior Showgirl and fellow student Bryony Allen was recognised as runner-up from a field of talented and presentable entrants.

“I felt proud, there was some good competition,” said Alice Haire.

Alice said that she’d been involved in the Show from a young age and she thought the Showgirl competition was a chance to get involved in a different aspect.

“The whole experience was very good,” she said.

Twenty-two year old Georgie Haire said she was “absolutely honoured” to be named the 2019 Wee Waa Showgirl.

“The Showgirl competition is great for personal growth and an amazing opportunity to meet other like-minded women who are passionate about the land and their communities.

“It’s also a great way to improve your public speaking skills and self-confidence.”
